most cab companies buy ex cop cars to use as taxis.have been a driver before.
Those are spacious cars to start off with.

Also most of them are used police cruisers and are well taken care of - and once they gt to about 100K miles the police department sells them off and the taxi drivers pick them at the auction quite cheap. Those cars are well maintained by the police department before they sell them at the auction.Why do taxi drivers almost always buy the big American gas guzzling cars? ie. Ford Crown Victoria?

Passenger and luggage space. I drove one of the big yellow Checkers back in the 70s.Why do taxi drivers almost always buy the big American gas guzzling cars? ie. Ford Crown Victoria?
there are a number of reasons;

they are roomy

they are comfortable

they are tough as nails

they actually get decent mileage, though not on the level of say a camry

they are fairly easy to maintain

they can run for 300,000 miles given proper maintenance

the are a proven design.

when you need a ride to the airport, and you have 4 people that need transport, would you rather your driver show up in a toyota yaris, or a crown vic?
if you called a taxi to take you to the airport would you rather they showed up in a geo or a crown vic?

It's all about being able to meet the consumers needs.
