To register a used car in Victoria, do i need to have a Roadworthy Certificate?

I've found a car i want to buy but it doesn't come with a roadworthy.. i've had people saying it does and doesn't need one in order for me to register it. Its a '93 Magna im buying used from a private sellerTo register a used car in Victoria, do i need to have a Roadworthy Certificate?
No and no.

When I last lived in Victoria the rule was when buying a used car, you must produce a valid roadworthy within 14 days to have the registration transferred to your name.

If buying a used, registered car, you are buying it as is, and also are required to have a roadworthy done within 14 days.

The vehicle must be transferred into your name within 14 days, or you will be fined.

Have a roadworthy inspection done before you agree to buy the car, this will give you a list of faults requiring repair before you purchase.

Don't be fooled, roadworthy's are very strict and repairs are expensive.

I have seen a car sold for $2000 as is, need over $3000 spent on it for the roadworthy, yet the car seemed to drive fine.

Will New York feel a bit less like New York when the Crown Victoria taxis and Town Car limos are gone?

Both have ended production now ... the Nissan NV200 minivan is largely replacing the Crown Victoria fleets and the Town Car limos will be replaced with SUV limos (Lincoln MKTs) as they age. Will New York feel a bit less like New York when the Crown Victoria taxis and Town Car limos are gone?
Gee, I'm old enough to remember the Checker Cabs! I miss them a whole lot more than I'll miss the current taxis. Will New York feel a bit less like New York when the Crown Victoria taxis and Town Car limos are gone?
No.

New York is constantly changing. If New York didn't feel less like New York when parasitic developers put up dozens of identical, poorly made buildings all over town, a few ugly cars on the streets won't change much.

SUVs?!? Well, that won't be too much different. Idiot yuppies (normally with anatomical compensation issues) have been clogging our street with their SUVs for years. Will New York feel a bit less like New York when the Crown Victoria taxis and Town Car limos are gone?
That's a good question...Well remember the checker cabs?? I'm sure after they were gone (and the Crown Victorias and Nissans started showing up) new yorkers were worried about the same thing. But ny is still ny so I think it will be okay :) As long as they're yellow!!
We survived the death of the Checker Marathon (the last real cabs). I won't miss the Crown Vics.

Please help?My car is ford crown victoria 2007 and the the trunk is not open by using the remote control.. Please help?
I'm not familiar w/ Fords, however, many makes feature a "Valet switch", it allows the items to stay "safe" in your trunk if you drop off the car to someone. Its normally a button you push on/off. Maybe you have one %26amp; unknowingly engaged it? Check in your glove box and/or center console. My car is ford crown victoria 2007 and the the trunk is not open by using the remote control.. Please help?
The most common problem with any electrical accessory is bad connections, either at the actuator that activates the trunk latch or the switch.

First check your fuse panel to be sure you haven't blown a fuse. The actuator itself can be eliminated simply by using a jumper wire to connect it to a known source of power to see if it operates as it should.

Then with a meter, check to see that you have power at the switch as well as the actuator. If you don't have power at the switch then the problem likely lies between it and the fuse panel. If there is power at the switch but none at the actuator start with the connections on the switch then the actuator itself. Remove each connection and clean both the male and female ends of each then reattach. Don't overlook the grounding connections too.

Electrical problems like this are sometimes very difficult to locate but taking your time and following the path of the current from the panel through every component is the only way to find where the problem lies.

Are the police Ford crown victorias cars getting replaced with the Dodge charger?

Ford has replaced the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with what they call the NGPI, which stands for Next Generation Police Interceptor. They designed it to accommodate much of the equipment that is used with the Crown Victoria, so I suspect many departments will keep the Ford so they don't have to buy new cages, light bars, and other accessories.

Chevy has also introduced a new Impala, so there is more competition than just the Dodge. The Hemi engine is the Dodge is better suited for highway pursuit, so I don't expect it to be popular in most cities. Are the police Ford crown victorias cars getting replaced with the Dodge charger?

Since ford stopped making Crown Victorias, all police stations will be switching over to other cars sometime in the future, for they can no longer get parts of the crown vics. Some stations are converting into Dodge Chargers, while others are using the Ford Fusion or the Chevy Cobalt. Are the police Ford crown victorias cars getting replaced with the Dodge charger?
Depends on what the agency wants. Some have gone to Chargers, some are going to the new Taurus police package, some have gone to the Chevy Impala (which is a piece of crap).

Go to an alignment shop and have them check the pitman arm.1998 crown victoria front end?
Sounds like the shocks are worn out.
yeh i heard the same things before too. could also be a pebble or rock in the hub cap too.1998 crown victoria front end?
Its time for a front end check It could be lots of things, Shocks, tie rods ends, upper and lower ball joints, bushings Take to an alignment shop and have it checked, hope this helped
If you have the capabilities of checking it at home, Start by looking at bushings. The bushings that connect the control arm to the frame is a great place to start, especially if you are also having some instabilty problems at higher speeds. Next thing you should check is the shock and strut monuts, If a strut mount has worn out it will cause a lot of knocking noise. This vehicle most likely is equipped with a parrelogram steering system and one most common problem with this steering system is the idler arm. Idler arms always seem to go bad often and although it may not be the nosie you are hearing it can still cause alignment issues and tire wear. Either way what ever the nose is and when you fix it make sure you get the alignment done afterwards.
Since you don't mention any problems with the steering wandering around on the highway, I would check the easy things first, like a loose front brake caliper. You could also check for other problems by jacking up the front wheel side that the noise may be coming from (like you were going to change the tire). First simply rotate the tire and listen for noises. Then push and pull tire top to bottom and side to side to check for play. Check the caliper bolts and lever or push with a broom handle to see if the caliper moves. However, you need a jackstand under the frame rail for safety since you can't depend on the car's jack to hold up the car safely while your jostling with it and under the fender well etc. Check for a leaking, damaged or loose shock absorber.

Not to mention pensioners $400 a fortnight to exist on roads substandard health system in a mess bringing cheap labour in further eroding working conditions. But we can send billions of dollars in aid over seas so other country's can buy weapons with it and also line their pockets but enough said .

How did the Crown Victoria car become known as a "cop car?" And since when was it labeled as such?

Here's the drill. Car manufacturers love to get their cars approved for government fleets because they can sell a lot of them without a lot of effort. Chrysler, Ford, and GM have all had "police special" or "police interceptor" models at one time or another. It's always a big four door sedan with a big motor and high-performance suspension and tires no matter who built it. Lots of speed, power, handling, and a ton of room in the back seat for criminals. Dodge had the Monaco, made famous in the movie The Blues Brothers, Chevy had the Caprice, Ford had the LTD Crown Victoria. So, when you see a Monaco or a Caprice or a Crown Victoria, you automatically think police car because that's what you see all the time. And Crown Victorias were and still are a very popular model across the country, both the older 80s style and the newer one. There's probably more Crown Victoria police cars than any other brand. People are so accustomed to seeing the Crown Victoria as a police car that when I had mine, a lot of people did a doubletake when they saw it, and I even had one guy run away from me after he jaywalked in Laguna beach because he though I was going to arrest him.How did the Crown Victoria car become known as a "cop car?" And since when was it labeled as such?
Because alot of cop cars are Crown Vics. My dad has one and it drives him crazy cause whenever anyone sees him coming up in their rearview...they all slow down.
Well before it was the Crown Vic it was the Chevy Caprice before that it was the Plymouth Fury before that it was A Dodge not sure of the make. Basically these are production cars with the optional police package. The Crown Vic is just one of the last large sedans out there. If you're going to ram somebody off the road you want a little weight and steel with you.How did the Crown Victoria car become known as a "cop car?" And since when was it labeled as such?
Because it is/was a popular model for cop cars....as for your second question, I'm going to guess that happened when it started being used for cop cars.
    Me again:

has the drill down. anywhere from .1999 up.

    Police Interceptors

2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police InterceptorThe law enforcement version of the 1999 and up Crown Victoria is known as the Police Interceptor, and many taxi companies use this "heavy duty" version as well. Prior to 1999, the police cars were officially known as the P71 Crown Victoria. The changes made in 1999 included a new rear fascia insignia, an all-black trim scheme which included replacing the color-keyed trunklid panels with black ones, and a black grille. Further refinements were made in 2001, including deletion of all trim on the plastic bumper pieces, and a honeycomb-style grille, replacing a slat-style grille as is found on standard Crown Victorias. Another difference between the civilian version and the Police Interceptor is that the back seats of the latter are built with the back and bottom portions as a single piece with no space in between them for back-seat occupants to hide objects.

2004 "P71" tube (so named for Ford's ID number for the model) and 2003 Marauder airbox retrofitted in 2000 Ford Crown VictoriaThe 2004-2005 Police Interceptor (referred to many as CVPIs, P71s) are rated for 250 hp (186 kW) because of the addition of a new air intake system. This includes a new air box that resembles the Mercury Marauder airbox (raised airbox lid, deeper bottom) with an integrated 80mm mass air flow (MAF) sensor that is part of the airbox lid. This allows for much more precise flow calibration and reduces the chances of air leakage. P71 zip tube (the flexible rubber hose between the throttle body and MAF outlet) is also used to reduce NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) as well as transfer air from the airbox to the throttle body with minimal flow resistance. Kevlar-lined front doors, which might be useful as protective barriers during gun fights, are optional on the Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, new for 2006 Model Year. Following the criticism of fires following rear-end collisions, in 2005 the Crown Victoria Police Interceptors now come with an optional automatic fire suppression system and special "trunk packs" designed to help prevent trunk contents from piercing the fuel tank in a collision.

There were some problems with early 2003 Police Interceptor. The newly designed steel wheels would rust and fall out, the rack and pinion units would fail early (sub-10k miles), and the rear axles would wear out and possibly fall out as well. This was not limited to the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Some 2003 Mercury Marauders were also affected. Luckily, this was only for very early 2003 models as the problems appear to have been fixed for newer models.

"P71" is the designation for the Police Interceptor. The code appears in the Vehicle Identification Number and distinguishes it from the commercial (P72), standard civilian (P73) and luxury civilian (P74) models. How did the Crown Victoria car become known as a "cop car?" And since when was it labeled as such?

I am not sure about the legality of your parking plan, but I can tell you about Victoria, TX. The last time I was there, it was fairly peaceful. I do remember the hospital, but most have for-fee parking lots which are fairly protected at night, and some free parking with is not very well protected. Victoria is one of TX's smaller cities.Would my car be ok parked at a hospital for two nights in Victoria, TX?
Why would you park it in a hospital lot, where people visiting patients would use the spaces? Seems somewhat selfish?

If you live in Houston, and your Friend lives in San Antonio, and you're going to South Padre, then why would you make him backtrack to meet you at Victoria? Meet him outside of Corpus Christi, and park your car in the long-term parking lot at Corpus Christi International Airport.
That's kinda dumb since Victoria is going in the OPPOSITE direction of S.A. Refer to Williams or Donna's answer.

Would a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?

What I'm primarily talking about are the Crown Victorias from the late 80's.

According to wikipedia a "muscle car" is basically a mid-sized american car with a high-powered engine and a high-torque drivetrain.

The Vics of the era were used as police cars, and were all equipped with high-end V8's. And from personal experience I know they possess quite a bit of torque as well. Yet whenever I hear talk of the Vics they are always referred to as luxury cars.

Anywho, this is a poll: so say your opinion: Crown Victorias from the late 80's: Luxury or Muscle Car?Would a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?

Would a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?
A muscle car for old ladies I suppose.....

    Jeeze, go play on Myspace.
Plenty of luxury cars have large torquey engines from Cadi's to BMW's. Muscle cars have a distinct ominous look to them, not just beefy engines.

Crown Vic = Luxury CarWould a classic crown victoria be considered a muscle car?
Tanks, which were selected by the police for their comfort and size, not their speed in the quarter mile. A lot of police departments drove Mustangs, until the discomfort of long hours in a cramped car, changed their minds about what a good cruiser was.
A muscle car must: be built between 1960 and 1973, have a V8, have 2 doors, and be RWD. Hot rod sure, but not a muscle car.
Neither. There were some Crown Victorias equipped with a special police package, which included among other things 351 motors and upgraded suspensions, but to call any Crown Victoria a muscle car is to grossly overrate it. They were absolutely not all equipped as police interceptors. In fact, the majority of them were equipped as overweight, underpowered, gas-guzzling mushy-riding overrated full-size sedans, many of them with a weak 302 that was choked with smog devices and burdened with a hybrid 2-barrel half-carburetor-half-fuel injector. Even the 5.0 Mustangs from the 80s got decent fuel injection. Some Crown Victorias were upgraded with lots of power accessories, but to call them luxury cars is again overstating them. If you wanted something from the Ford Motor Company that was luxurious, you could step up to Lincoln, which ironically was built on the same rehashed Panther chassis. On the flip side, my 1985 Crown Victoria lasted 250,000 miles and 20 years before the engine lost oil pressure and died.
    Hi,

I'll have to say a Luxury car.

    Mac
no ,nothing in the luxury line of cars is considered to be a muscle car,and one of that size wouldn't fit the category anyway, good luck on it.
Could be both. Find one with all the police accessories still on %26amp; in the motor and you'll have a muscle car. But good luck finding one that hasn't been put back to normal for street driving. They usually strip them to make them legal for normal street use.
No these were definitely considered luxury cars by the manufacturer, and built for a safe smooth ride at high speed. The Mustang is a muscle car-the Crown Vic, even the police version is definitely no muscle car.
definitely not a muscle car, it has smog equipment
    Sorta Luxury not much muscle.
    Get your facts straight!

    Not all were equipped with high-end V8's . . . . .

Also, Wikipedia is not the most reliable source of information . . .

The clicking sound is the throw-out bearing trying to engage the flywheel.

the click / no start occurs when battery voltage (arriving at the starter) is under about 10 volts.

you have a dead battery or bad battery cable connections. Get someone to jump start your car and see if that works to get it running. Then find out what is wrongwith it. not likely it is a bad starter.

In all eastern states, you need a roadworthy issued before the registration can be transfered.

Do Police radar guns in vehicles only catch the cars they are facing or do they pick up behind to in Victoria?

All radars face to the front of the car - and they all will clock the vehicles approaching from opposite directions. Some have the option of clocking same direction in front also.

If you add a rear antenna, you can clock the vehicles behind you - same direction and opposite direction.

Clocking to the side requires a hand held unit and the vehicle (patrol vehicle) to be stopped.

That is moving vs stationary radar.

I assume if Victoria has any substantial amount of roadway or a traffic unit they will have front and rear radar.Do Police radar guns in vehicles only catch the cars they are facing or do they pick up behind to in Victoria?

Some cars have radars in the front and rear.

EX. If you go 77 in a 65 and spot a cop going the opposite direction and decide to speed up to 85 and take the next exit turn to get away there could be a very good chance he would pick that acceleration up

You ticket could go from to 77 in a 65 to felony evading.

How do I avoid snow while travelling by car in Victoria?

I need to drive from port fairy in Victoria to Echuca and Tocumwal (towns on the Murray River) in mid-June. I don't have snow chains on my car. Can anyone tell me the most direct route through areas where it doesn't snow? How do I avoid snow while travelling by car in Victoria?
There is no way you will encounter ANY snow on that trip. It only snows in Victoria in the high mountains and you won't be going anywhere near any high mountains.

I'd put the chances of snow that would need chains at something like 1 in a million.
chance of snow where you are going is about 1 in 100How do I avoid snow while travelling by car in Victoria?
The only through highways in Victoria that will be covered in snow are the high plain routes from Omeo through Falls Creek (tar sealing just completed this year), and the pass from Omeo over Mt Hotham. Both these routes are spectacular and scenic; but WAY off your route.
    don't worry, i doubt you'd need them

like in melborune you'll only need chains when you're half way up the mountain

this year is supposed to the best snow season in a decade, but still i'll doubt you're going to have any problems

and mid june is still early inthe seasonHow do I avoid snow while travelling by car in Victoria?
stick to the highway, you will not see snow on this trip. you will only need chains if you visit the snowfields, which you are going nowhere near.
The best route fo you to take is, from the 'Bool, take the Hamilton Hwy to Lismore, then after 4km take the turn off to Pitfield and Scarsdale, through to Ballarat. From Ballarat take the Midland Hwy to Bendigo, then the Midland and Northern Hwys to Echuca.

Everyone else is right about no snow, but what we wouldn't give for at least some rain in Melbourne and the ranges.
You won't need to try and avoid it as there will be none. In Vic it only snows in the mountains on the east and your not going near them.

Why do taxi drivers almost always buy the big American gas guzzling cars? ie. Ford Crown VictoriaWhy do taxi drivers almost always buy the big American gas guzzling cars? ie. Ford Crown Victoria?
most cab companies buy ex cop cars to use as taxis.have been a driver before.
Those are spacious cars to start off with.

Also most of them are used police cruisers and are well taken care of - and once they gt to about 100K miles the police department sells them off and the taxi drivers pick them at the auction quite cheap. Those cars are well maintained by the police department before they sell them at the auction. Why do taxi drivers almost always buy the big American gas guzzling cars? ie. Ford Crown Victoria?
well i dont know where you live but here in california we have different vehicles for taxis such as minivans, toyota prius
Passenger and luggage space. I drove one of the big yellow Checkers back in the 70s.Why do taxi drivers almost always buy the big American gas guzzling cars? ie. Ford Crown Victoria?
    there are a number of reasons;

    they are roomy

    they are comfortable

    they are tough as nails

they actually get decent mileage, though not on the level of say a camry

they are fairly easy to maintain

they can run for 300,000 miles given proper maintenance

    the are a proven design.

when you need a ride to the airport, and you have 4 people that need transport, would you rather your driver show up in a toyota yaris, or a crown vic?
if you called a taxi to take you to the airport would you rather they showed up in a geo or a crown vic?

Like cat says, wtf is your question? You never asked one. You made a few statements though, or rather maybe exaggerated or tried to bs us? No I do not know of ANY SINGLE Victorian that has this type of marking naturally. Man made? How possible is it to put a cruise ship with capacity of 2000 people and 400 cars on Lake victoria in Uganda?

Whether that is possible from the water standpoint I do not know. However, there are NO cruise ships that carry cars. To have such a ship on Lake Victoria would require designing and building the ship.

officially no, there is to be no modification from the tip of the air intake to the tip of the exhaust. however i don't think it has ever been enforced. pod filters are a waste of time. more the wan.k factor if anything. you often see ricers done up with the pod filter sitting in the engine bay sucking in all that nice warm hot air! clearly they have no idea at all, also a pod just sitting in the engine bay is illegal. Can Green P platers in VICTORIA, drive modified cars with sports exaust systems and sports pod filters?

  • Are Ford Crown Victoria police cars supercharged?

or is it the standard 4.6L V8s in the Mustang GTs and F150s.Are Ford Crown Victoria police cars supercharged?
They are not supercharged. They all use the standard 4.6L SOHC V8. The only enhancements to the engine are a slightly more aggressive ECU tune , dual exhaust without resonators, a heavy duty alternator and HD cooling. In most years even the civilian Crown Vics could be had with most of the police package bits with the Handling/Performance Package from the factory. that got you the dual exhaust and lower gearing that the P71's had.

In short the CV police cars aren't much quicker or faster than a civilian CV.
Crown Vics police cars such as HWY Pursuit cars have 150 speedo's and have around 300 or more HP and some run the Mercury Marauder engine. The around town cars are lower hp because it keeps them more reliable and pretty much bullet proof to repairs, many of the ex cop cars end up being taxi cabs and have the engine chips dialed down for around town cruising. Most standard chips used in limos and standard cop cars are around 280hp.Are Ford Crown Victoria police cars supercharged?
No, they are basically standard 4.6L that same Ford puts in every car. They have some small differences and nice extras like coolers every now and then depending on the year model. But it would simply cost too much money to build a special engine just for police cars.
Ive never heard a cruiser have a blower whine.

I am amazed that these cars are so economical and long lasting. What is the secret for Lincoln Town Cars and Ford Crown Victoria's going strong at 300,000 miles?
Its just a well built reliable car. This is part of the reason they are so common as police cars, taxis, and situations where they will get lots of miles in short periods of time. These cars have been relatively untouched for better part of 30 years.

Why are most taxies big cars like Crown Victoria?

Aren't they gas guzzling and less economical? Why don't taxi companies use smaller cars? Why are most taxies big cars like Crown Victoria?
These bigger cars are built better %26amp; are more reliable. Taxi's get abused, and they need a well built reliable car to work well. Why are most taxies big cars like Crown Victoria?
The majority of newer vehicles will only seat five people (4 plus driver) because of only having bucket seats available for the front, whereas most taxi regulations require a six-passenger vehicle, and only the Crown Victoria sized cars meet that criteria. The only other configuration that works is a mini van, and a lot of those could carry 7 people, which instantly voids the vehicle insurance -- but is done anyway. Why are most taxies big cars like Crown Victoria?
Actually, there is a trend toward smaller, more efficient taxis. One reason is that the Crown Victoria is being discontinued. Another reason is the threat of five dollar gasoline. The reason that there are so many Crown Victorias and other big American cars is because they are cheap to fix, cheap to buy, they last a long time, and they can easily fit three people in the back seat. Try to find any of those traits in a Prius.

They may be using a waterless wash. It's about $8 a bottle and gives an excellent finish. Can buy it in the car section at Big W or wherever really... They could also be using a car wash. Not all have shut down. In Qld, only a few servo's have stopped use, but otherwise, every one is still active. Personally, I use waterless wash. It's cheaper than a car wash, and there's no need for a chamois. Which car is Better Mercury Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria Cars?

They're basically the same. The only difference is the way they look and the Marquis is a little bigger with a better interior than the Crown Vic. They are both being discontinued soon, so I'm not sure if you really do want either one of them. If you want them because they are being discontinued, perhaps holding on to them hoping they'll be a collector's car at some point in the future, they probably will not be worth anything, even after 20 or 25 years. I'm not sure if the Mercury Marauder is still around. It's a high performance version of the Grand Marquis. If you are looking to have a classic one day, the Marauder has a better chance of being worth anything down the line. If you're looking for a big car, personally, I believe you should look into GM cars like the Buick Lucerne. It will be around for a lot longer and I believe it's a better car anyway than the Crown Vic or the Mercury Grand Marquis, and it looks better too.Which car is Better Mercury Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria Cars?
same car just depends on u they both are ford, just different badgesWhich car is Better Mercury Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria Cars?
As far as I can gather they are the same car, it is just minor cosmetic and trim differences that tells them apart. The traditional perception and aim of the FoMoCo marketing people is that the Mercury is a cut above the Ford, sort of a stop gap between Ford and Lincoln. Hope this helps.Which car is Better Mercury Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria Cars?
They are identical mechanically. Only the body sheet metal is slightly different. However the Mercury is "supposed" to be a more prestigious name tag in the Ford line.
Mercury is nicer inside. but get a Crown Vic and tint the windows. People will think you're a cop on the highways and it will freak them out.

I want to purchase this '99 ford crown victoria POLICE CAR, ARE POLICE CARS MORE COSTLY TO MAINTAIN?

My friend told me not to buy it because police cars have different brakes (ventilated brakes?) that shops don't carry and must order which is costly. Also many components under the hood are different and more costly to replace than regular crown victorias.

Is this true? cause if not, i really wanna buy it!

Thanks!I want to purchase this '99 ford crown victoria POLICE CAR, ARE POLICE CARS MORE COSTLY TO MAINTAIN?
OK, a police car with the interceptor package usually had heavy duty transmission(some type of shift kit), heavy duty breaks, roll %26amp; push bars, and an engine with 250hp(which is mostly normal)....but if they were equiped with drilled rotors (about 200 for a pair) the rotors would be double of what your normal rotors cost (100 a pair)....but other than that everything else is just about the same and shouldn't cost you more than what that parts sells for on a regular crown vic
i would buy it... the inital cost was over thirty thousand.. the major difference is a interceptor engine.. no big deal.. maybee a lot of wear.. because it probably has high mileage.. but the only set back is getting the name police painted on the body.. buy it but dont pay what they ask try to reason with them.I want to purchase this '99 ford crown victoria POLICE CAR, ARE POLICE CARS MORE COSTLY TO MAINTAIN?
You're only talking some minor performance parts . If you want it , go for it . They're driven hard while in service, but well maintained. Long time ago I had a '58 Ford Police 390" Interceptor, only ran on 7 cylinders but would still smoke 'em up and do over 130 .
